Five Questions That Tell The Story
Can Your Candidate Tell The Story?
Here are five questions that I ask of prospective employees and management candidates. These five questions will tell the story about that person. You should ask the same of anyone that you consider bringing into your business with you – your recruits. The reason: she/he will be representing you , your company, and your product. By recruiting only “people” people, you will build a lasting business. Are these interview questions the only thing you need to know? Absolutely not but they are a good start. Weave them into your own set of question.
Five Questions
1. Why did you leave your last job? The response will tell me if the person worked well with people or if they have a negative opinion of co-workers or supervisors.
2. What three things would you consider as your strengths?
3. What three things would you consider as your weaknesses?
These two questions will tell me if the person knows themselves or even cares to know themselves. If he/she has been in the workforce for any period of time, they should be quick to answer these two questions. If they hesitate to answer or don’t have real answers they will not help your business. If they don’t really know themselves and believe in themselves, how can they really know a product and believe in that product enough to sell it. We’ve all heard that selling is just telling your story. Well, if you can’t tell me the story of you then you can’t tell the story of my brand or product (sell).
4. What is a standard? We all talk about standards but can you really define it? Can you give a definition of a standard – exactly what a standard is? If you can’t, contact me and I will tell you. Very few people can define exactly what a standard is in common sense terms. It makes you stop and think. See: What Is A Standard?
5. What is common sense? Can you define what common sense is? In the people business, you need it and the people in your organization need it if your organization is to be successful.
